How we are going to decide who plays ? Good question ....
While we value skill, there is a lot more to being a successful team then skill. Player's must learn how to play together in a team environment. We will be not only basing our decision on skill but, team work, work ethic , sportsmanship, grades, attendance among other things. We want our students and teammates to not just be successful here but anywhere they go after this program. We are here to give students more opportunities to succeed in life and possibly use esports as a avenue into college and maybe even a career. We have many big things in store for our students, including playing with kids from all over the state of Michigan , as well as the eastern region of the United States, doing this all while at the safety of staying within the school grounds.
So why eSports do you ask ? Another good question ....
Every year millions of kids and adults around the world turn to the world of gaming and competitive gaming for a number of reasons. Not only can you play from the comfort of your own house or room its cheaper then most other sports where you need to buy equipment and you can do it year round unlike most sports. It also provides kids who are unable to play sports a way to be competitive and form bonds with other kids just as if they were out playing a physical sport. Now that eSports is gaining notoriety in a number of ways colleges and high schools all over the country and world are recognizing the need for professional leagues and scholarships. The platform we play off of PlayVS is recognized by many of the leagues and programs that offer esports and offers a path to play professionally and earn a scholarship for kids who would have possibly no other way to get a college education. That is what me and my colleagues are trying to accomplish with this program, give kids this avenue to try to get into college where that could not before. We are hoping to get a few of those kids with this program.
